The 5th New York Regiment, commonly known as Duryée’s Zouaves, was raised in Manhattan on April 1861 by Colonel Abram Duryée.

As it was sometimes the trend in volunteer regiments, the uniform was inspired in the style of the colonial uniforms of the French Army, which was a prominent reference for the organization of many armies around the world on those days. The troopers of this regiment wore French Zoauves style uniforms in dark blue and red.

They took part in many important battles, like the Second Battle of Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg or Chancellorsville. In the Battle of Gaines’ Mill, they played a key role in stopping the attack from the South Carolina Brigade. During all their service record, the regiment fought and behaved with distinction, and General McClellan said of them “The Fifth is the best disciplined and soldierly Regiment of the Army.”

Our bust portrays a corporal of this regiment in campaign, with all the elements and equipment characteristic of this unit.

Note: This is a resin miniature kit that requires assembly and painting.
