War & Peaces Miniatures - WWI French Stretcher Bearer and his dog, 1915

Figure requires assembly and painting
During the First World War, French stretcher-bearers were largely recruited among seminarians, priests and teachers. Often without military training and even sometimes without uniform, they were considered by the hierarchy as "non-essential" to the war effort because unlike combatants, they did not carry arms... The reality on the ground has of course proven the contrary. The improvement in the conditions for the evacuation of the wounded linked to the dedication of these courageous men was essential to the eventual victory. We wanted to create this original figurine of a First World War stretcher -bearer to pay tribute to these men.
One could indeed wonder about the presence of the dog alongside the stretcher-bearer. It must be said that dogs have always participated despite themselves in wars and in particular during medical operations. This figurine of a First World War stretcher-bearer is therefore a double homage: to the men and to their companions the dogs.
